The acronym for L.I.F.E., learning it from experience, is an excerpt from a book I've been working on for years called: 'A Collection of Thoughts'. The message is a reflection of what life often seems to revolve around, … learning everything from new experiences.
This was my first design series concept, but my third or fourth version, which made it to see the light of day. I have had several other design series since this one, but this is near to my heart because just underneath God, as things I value, there is family. The quote on the shirt is something I stand by: "The people around you may be chosen or by birth. The ones you call family are those who fill you with love."
The idea around Clever Casual Creations started with the idea: Black Dreams Blue Sky. In short, this symbolizes the Black-American dream being realized when 'the sky is the limit' as a concept is embraced. This design is for all the dreamers out there that are taking steps towards making their dreams a reality. ​ After I created my initial design, my wife petitioned for a female design as well, and I'm glad she did. Black Dreams are not just for men, but for everyone in the Black Diaspora.
This design was an accident that turned out beautifully. Abstract colors swirling and splashing, with a black queen at the center could only be called Inspire. This design is for my wife, my mother, my sisters, my daughter, and all the other exceptional women in my life.
So the Soul Music design Series started with this image, which I thought was iconic, colorful and cool. This is the original design with just the image and no text. There have been several spin-off designs based on this original, which we will feature over time. This design represents the close connection that many of us share with music.
This design was an inspiration from my wife who serves her community as a school counselor. The idea was that, "By sharing your problems and thoughts, there will be better days ahead for those that need help the most". Sometimes the best help starts with realizing you need help.
This design started with the Black American Heritage Flag, which sits front and center. I only discovered the flag recently, although it has been around since 1967. I think the flag should be promoted more as it is a very nice design, and honors the Black American Heritage that many of us share. I added a quote, which I believe rings true, that we are the Kings and Queens of our own creation. We strive to treat ourselves as Kings and Queens because nobody will hand us those honors. History has shown that we are often treated opposite of these honorable titles. We create these honors and bestow them on our Mothers, Fathers, Uncles, Aunties and Grandparents, because if we don't create it for ourselves, nobody else will. https://originalblackamericanheritageflag.com/
​My daughter asked me for a few weeks straight to design a shirt for her. She is such a persistent, intelligent, and kind girl, there was no way I was going to say no. My daughter loves unicorns, as do many little girls, and seeing a likeness to herself in a magical setting is always a treat, especially when that's as close to getting a pony as she's going to get! I hope other little girls of color are intrigued and inspired by the design, as I know mine is.
​My son loves two things right now, Dinosaurs and Spiderman. Somehow I think most 4 year old boys are in the same category. This is a design dedicated to my little buddy and any kid that has the same interests.
