Making America Great, for everyone, for the first time

This year, 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country as we know it.  The United States of America.   A lot of things have changed since 1776.  Many wars have been fought.  Many philosophies have been debated.  Many advances have been made in science and our understanding of the world.  Many advances have been made in our collective understanding of moral right and wrong.  And many of us Americans are divided in our pride for this country in the modern day.

There are so many people that have different backgrounds, different lived experiences, different visions of what a good life looks like for them.  Where do we start to find the middle ground, where everyone could agree would be great for all Americans, not just ones who look the same as the majority, or those who think the same as the sitting president, or those who have the kind of wealth that the average citizen could only dream about.  What would it take to make America great, for everyone, for the first time?

This list is a collection of ideas that may range from completely disagreeable to completely delusional, but every item placed was done so with the intention to imagine what kind of America would make every citizen stand up proudly and defend what we have with every fiber of our being.  Please comment for what you would add to the list.

• Acknowledge the atrocity of the transatlantic slave trade, the Jim Crow era, and the numerous hurdles that the FBI/CIA and other federal and local government entities have placed against Black Americans.

• Also acknowledge other horrible acts of American history and how our country has had a destructive impact on many parts of the world, much of the time for all the wrong reasons.

• Reparations for the Black American population in the form of a newly built city for each of the 50 states, all called Soul City.  There was a project first initiated in North Carolina back in the 1970's, but derailed by racist government officials of the time. This form of reparations would aim to see that vision come to life and more. The federal and state governments should work together to create this network of Soul Cities, one in each state of the union, where ownership of the buildings, the land, the businesses will stay in black hands.  There would be no franchises from established giants, but new companies, grocery stores, electronics, suppliers, etc. which are all black owned.  Create the businesses and jobs as needed. Mentorship from more established corporate companies would be a great help and sign of unity.

• Reduce military spending and stop the never-ending wars.  Most of the military budget goes to private companies that have a strangle-hold on our military complex's equipment, vehicles, and designs.

• Make the American people aware of the intricacies of how and when our military is used.  If we are at war, we should know exactly why and what the long-term goal towards ending the war is.  If the American people disapprove of a war, we should work towards the will of the people.

• 
  

• No more tolerance for bigots, racists, greedy narcissists, or intelligent assholes in positions of power.  If identified, these people need to be removed from any positions of power.

• Our politicians need a stricter set of qualifications for office.  Being a career politician is realistic, but needs to be vetted by temperament, morals, and objective fairness.  Why do we have so many prejudice bigots in positions of power?

• Regulate artificial intelligence and improve our infrastructure to be less vulnerable to massive cyber-attacks via A.I.  ethical A.I. to make the technology work for us, not against us.

• Understand that major systems are affected by change, and we don't want to continue gaslighting people on why change isn't happening.  If a disruptive technology or process comes out, just make plans that accommodate migrating people into these new things rather than leaving people behind in the gold rush to be first to be king of the new thing.  Take care of the people and the people will take care of you.

• Get money out of politics.  No marketing campaigns, no million dollar donations, no donations at all.  Every candidate gets a website to display their ideas and plans.  There will be a podcast series where each candidate can fully explain their individual ideas and then later debate other candidates to challenge ideas.  The whole setup is fully funded from taxpayer money and the goal is to level the playing field for all candidates so there are no favorites getting more air-time.  Local events and meet and greets can still happen.

• Ranked-Choice voting for office.  You should be able to pick your top choices instead of trying to play the game of the best of bad choices.

• Limit terms for congress to 7 years.

• Limit maximum age for congressional members to below whatever the current retirement age is…  why do we have people that are 20 years past their retirement age running positions of power that are so important to the functioning of our government when you wouldn't trust your grandma with a salad knife?

• Expand the presidential cabinet to include

  • Department of Peace

  • Department of Future Planning

  • Department of Human Morality

• Uphold our constitution with the understanding that our sworn offices of government and military members is to uphold, preserve and defend the constitution.  Not to protect a flag.

• Freedom of the press.  No press should be persuaded by money.  The press is an extension of the people.  Should be paid by the citizens fund, a form of tax on the citizens that goes to non-government yet essential institutions and is opt-in for each citizen.

• Hold severe punishment for deliberate misinformation and untrue propaganda being fed to the people.  Any attempt by our own government or outside influences to sway the minds of the people need to be taken very seriously.

• No more Super Bills in Congress.  No more pushing of bills that have hidden agendas and multiple stipulations attached for big ticket items to hide impactful items behind.  Each bill needs to deal with the same topic or area of concern and shouldn't have more than 10 elements to it.  Any items that are of high impact to the citizens needs to be presented to the citizens directly for a citizens vote.

• The right to Ownership: No more Property Tax, Death Tax, or Inheritance Tax.  If you own it, you own it and don't need to pay the government when you sell it or give it away.

• Restructure the FDA and prosecute all business ceo's past and present who knowingly are including poisonous food additives and chemicals to what should be simple food.  This improved organization should be held accountable if they don't verify our food health standards properly.

• Universal Healthcare - take the money from the reduced military budget.

• Universal basic income (the Freedom Dividend) - figure out the exact amount and make sure it scales with inflation so that people can truly have the basics paid for (mortgage/rent, utilities, vehicle fuel / transportation, food, basic entertainment).

• Universal Childcare - subsidize childcare and encourage better investment into raising a generation of world leaders.

• Right to Repair - make planned obsolescence an illegal method.  Products created in the United States or for the people of the US should be made to last.

• If we have universal basic income, universal Healthcare, and universal childcare, companies can pay workers less than they pay now, although companies need to pay their fair share in taxes.  There would still be plenty of incentive to work since most new goods would be fairly expensive.  But in this reality, things are built well and made to last, and all the essential needs are taken care of.  You would chase higher pay to fund a lifestyle at a certain point.

• Care for the elderly.  Universal Basic Income and Universal Healthcare account for a part of this.  The rest is on the backs of those who have a calling to assist those in their golden years by helping them to stay active and engaged, to learn and share stories of these elders whose wisdom should be treasured.

• Remove credit as a way of doing business.  Debt is the currency of slaves.  Anything purchased should be with money available.  No more government bonds as the backbone of the economy.

• No more monopolies.  Force the split of any company with more than 5% of the market.  This means there would always be a minimum of 20 choices across any given market.  There will be an exception rule, to which a monopoly is allowed if the product is too good/essential, but the trade-off is that the company will become government owned, with ultimate discretion of direction left to the people.  This means that while the company is overseen by the government, the people act as shareholders that dictate what direction the company must move in.

• Restructure the prison system entirely.  No more for profit prisons.  All prisons will be government funded.  All prisons will focus mainly on rehabilitation, in truth and not in passing.  Remove constitutional amendment that says prisoners are slaves.  Treat them as people.  They will have a job, part time so that the rest of the time is for personal growth.  When they get out of prison, they will be able to vote and buy firearms (only if not deemed a mentally unstable violent threat).

• Reform our emergency services.  Train our police to handle stressful situations better.  Get them better equipment to make them safer from sudden attacks so they are more comfortable and less fearful.  Vett the Policemen more thoroughly since they carry weapons that can kill.

• Teach firearm safety in school, starting from elementary up to high school with increasing levels of detail.  If we believe in the 2nd amendment, we need to teach about the dangers of firearms and how everyone can be kept safe around them.  Kids with erratic behavior and destructive tendencies would be flagged by teaching staff early and listed for more thorough review by FBI and Counseling services.  Also increase functional gun safety by inventing biometric locks that can be retrofit on any firearm triggers or grips to prevent firing unless the true owner.  Make sure there are thorough checks for buyers, so as not to sell to gun traffickers, violent and mentally unstable felons, fbi flagged people on potential danger list, and any other similar situation.  For the people on those lists, they should at least be able to buy non lethal protection items, like pepper spray guns, and shockers.

• Plan, update and improve our infrastructure and city/suburban layouts with emphasis on preservation of the local ecology and affordable housing.  Less suburban sprawl and more efficient city spaces, earth-scrapers, and skyscrapers.  More vertical farms for local produce. Improved power grid.  More battery backups, water tanks, and individual waste management per building/Home, to reduce full load on the city.
